Full of Faith, Into the Unknown!

Posted on by Bonnie Rodriguez

I met Yolande two summers ago when we worked at YFC Camp Grace together on Project Serve. I could tell by her work ethic and interactions that she had a strong spirit and a natural take-charge disposition. I knew immediately that Yolande had something special.

Fast forward 2 years, and I am on staff with Miami YFC, working with Yolande and her peers on a weekly basis. I love watching her lead our elementary students because she is so fearless, and she has been an important voice in our Bible Studies, proclaiming that even just one person can make a difference in this community. Because she met Jesus at KIX, she has stayed away from drugs, gangs, and crime that plague her streets, family, and friends.

As her time gets nearer to graduation, Yolande feels the Lord leading her to the military. Although she has yet to decide if that will be in the Air Force or Marines, one thing Yolande does know is that she wants to be a testimony within that setting. She has expressed wanting to lead weekly Bible studies while enlisted and is looking forward to being a voice for the Lord. We all truly believe she has the potential to do anything she puts her mind to, and if God is for her, who can be against her!?

On January 27th I had the opportunity to rappel down a 10-story building alongside Yolande for our Over the Edge Fundraiser. She was nervous to the point of tears, but it was so powerful to watch her face that challenge head on and conquer it. Many times the things that cause us the most fear in life are the unknowns, but I am confident in what the Lord is doing in Yolande’s life as she strives forward.

Sincerely,
