Real Heroes

Posted on by Bonnie Rodriguez

By this point, you've probably heard of Avengers: Endgame, the superhero explosion (don't worry, #nospoilers here).  In it, there are dozens of powerful, special heroes who now represent more people groups and types than ever.

But to me?  A lot of real heroes are left out.

Because every week, I get to see real heroes leave work early to go to the alternative school in North Miami beach.

I get to see real heroes bake cookies and bring them to tutoring students in our City Life program.

I get to see real heroes share their gifts for dance and art with our Catalyst after school kids.

I get to see real heroes volunteer to simply sit and listen to a few students during a lunch hour at 12 different schools in Miami-Dade county.

Real heroes are all around me, sacrificing time and energy to make a difference in kids' lives.  To tell them they can have life in their stories.

So don't get me wrong - if you saw Endgame, I hope you enjoyed every minute.  But don't forget that real heroes - especially in Miami - walk among us every day.
